Abuse of public parking in Durrës, fraudsters extort citizens, police do not act

Drivers and visitors to the city of Durrës have long been facing a disturbing phenomenon.

Various individuals, who present themselves as employees of private parking lots, demand payment from citizens to park their vehicles, even though the spaces are public and designated by the Municipality for free parking.

JOQ has obtained footage of a person today taking money from citizens for parking in public spaces. According to witnesses, this individual leaves as soon as the police appear, but returns immediately after they leave, continuing to extort citizens.

This is not the first such case. In various streets and neighborhoods of Durrës, citizens have reported similar cases where unauthorized individuals have demanded unfair payments for public spaces that the Municipality has left free.

Local authorities and the police are called upon to urgently intervene to stop this abusive practice, which not only harms citizens financially, but also exposes them to unfair fines.

"Message from the citizen who reported it: "Hello JOQ, look what's happening. A citizen acts like an employee, takes people's money for parking, then the police issue fines. This is how people are deceived and get fines for nothing. Thank you. I was impressed that when the police come to issue fines, that person distances himself and after they leave, the police come back."
