Drug network hit/ Suspected of being trafficked from Saranda, 96 kg of marijuana seized at the Greek-Albanian border

Another large shipment of narcotics was seized this morning by Greek police near the Greek-Albanian border in Igoumenitsa. This is the second quantity seized in this area within the last 8 days.
Specifically, in an operation that took place this morning, a privately rented car was blocked.
At the wheel was a 61-year-old Greek woman originally from Moskato, Athens. During a search of the interior of the vehicle, police officers found and seized 90 packages containing 96 kg and 74 grams of marijuana, a quantity of cocaine weighing 5.21 grams, a small quantity of “chocolate” hashish, 100 euros and 2 mobile phones.
The quantity seized today is suspected to have been trafficked from Saranda, passing through the villages of the Konispol Municipality. 8 days ago, in Nea Selefkia of Igoumenitsa, about 110 kg of marijuana were seized that had passed through the village of Ciflik of Konispol, while the Greek police arrested a Turkish citizen.
In parallel, the Greek police have notified their Albanian counterparts, specifically the Saranda Border Police Commissariat, about both cases.
The Saranda border police have set up control groups along the green border but also in maritime areas, to identify the possible perpetrators of drug trafficking in both cases.
There are suspicions that drug trafficking lines have been reactivated in Saranda, as in the last 10 months, several cases of marijuana trafficking have been detected in Igoumenitsa with a seized quantity of around 540 kg.
In one of the cases, the drugs were seized on a speedboat that sank, but the driver, a citizen from Saranda, was captured.
There has also been a reactivation of drug trafficking from Albania in the area of Ioannina, Kostur and Thessaloniki, where, together with the quantity seized in Igoumenitsa, it results that in the last 10 months, around 1.2 tons of marijuana have been seized.
