45 stolen tractors, Albanian gang dismantled the vehicles and trafficked them to

Italian carabinieri have dismantled a gang of Albanian "hawkers" who were robbing agricultural tractors with the aim of trafficking them or selling them for parts, for profit.

The operation was carried out in the Modena area in recent days, while 4 people were arrested, all Albanians aged 58, 46, 44 and 21.

They are held responsible for the theft and trafficking of at least 45 vehicles, of which 28 are tractors and the rest are cars, with a damage value of 2.5 million euros. 14 of the vehicles have been recovered and returned to their owners.

The group is suspected of being part of a criminal organization dedicated to stealing agricultural tractors, receiving stolen goods and cleaning up stolen cars.

The Preliminary Investigation Judge confirmed the arrest yesterday and ordered the preliminary measure of detention in prison for the four suspects, approving the Prosecution's request.

The investigation began in September, in response to a significant increase in thefts of agricultural machinery recorded in the province of Modena during the summer. Attention was focused in particular after the theft of four tractors from a farm in San Prospero on the night of 24 July and the theft of two other vehicles in Zocca on 5 August 2025.

Subsequent investigations led to the identification of the persons responsible for the thefts that took place not only in the province of Modena, but also in the areas of Bologna, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Forlì-Cesena and Piedmont.

The group identified targets through careful reconnaissance and used stolen vehicles to steal the tractors. These were then cleverly hidden in remote and hard-to-reach areas of the countryside to ensure they were not equipped with satellite tracking systems.

Following the thefts from agricultural businesses, carried out by three of the suspects, the tractors were loaded onto an articulated truck used by the 58-year-old, who transported them to Albania via an overland journey that passed through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

The investigation, conducted through telephone tapping and environmental surveillance, analysis of computer and telephone data, viewing of video surveillance footage, and shadowy observation and stalking services, allowed serious evidence of guilt to be gathered very quickly.

The four suspects are held responsible for the theft of 28 agricultural tractors (22 of which were recovered by the judicial police and returned to their owners) and 17 cars and vans (14 of which were returned to their rightful owners). The total market value of the stolen goods recovered is approximately 2.5 million euros,   Italian media reports.

During the searches, several signal jamming devices, an insect detector, tractor ignition keys, and burglary tools, all used in the theft, were found and seized.
