For the first time, England "conquers" Europe, 3 Premier League teams in 3 major finals

The European football season is making history for English clubs. For the first time, Premier League teams have secured a place in the finals of all three major UEFA competitions in the same season.

It all started with Arsenal FC, who secured their place in the Champions League final on Tuesday after a 2-1 aggregate victory over Atlético Madrid. An achievement that confirmed the Gunners' return to the European elite and ignited enthusiasm in English football.

Two more historic qualifiers came on Thursday night alone. In the Europa League, Aston Villa pulled off a spectacular upset over Nottingham Forest, booking a duel with SC Freiburg on May 20 in Istanbul, while there was also celebration for Crystal Palace, with the Londoners defeating Shakhtar Donetsk again, this time 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

Such a success for English football came very close last season. Chelsea won the Conference League, while Tottenham Hotspur FC triumphed in the Europa League, but Arsenal FC's Champions League adventure came to an end in the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain FC.

However, the history of English football also knows periods of dominance in Europe before. In 2021, the Champions League final was all-English, with Chelsea FC defeating Manchester City FC thanks to a goal from Kai Havertz, while Manchester United FC reached the Europa League final.

Another memorable season was 2019, when Liverpool FC won the Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur FC and Chelsea FC triumphed against Arsenal FC in the Europa League final in Baku.

On the other hand, Italy remains the last country to have completely dominated European football. In the 1989–90 season, Italian clubs won all three continental competitions: Milan were declared European champions, Juventus FC won the UEFA Cup and UC Sampdoria triumphed in the Cup Winners' Cup.

Now all attention is on the finals in May, where English football aims to close a historic season with absolute dominance in the European arena.
