Manolo of the "drum", Spain's "VIP" fan dies

Manolo "El del Bombo" ("The Drum Man"), the most famous fan of the Spanish national team, died on Thursday, May 1, at the age of 76, in the city of Vila-Real, after spending several days in hospital with respiratory problems.
Manolo "El del Bombo"'s last public appearance was at the Mestalla stadium, during the match between the Spanish national team and the Netherlands, at the end of March this year. The national team's most iconic fan began following "La Roja" during the 1982 World Cup, which Spain hosted.
Since then, Manolo has cheered for the national team in 10 World Cups: Spain '82, Mexico '86, Italy '90, United States '94, France '98, Korea and Japan 2002, Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018. Manolo has also cheered for Spain in eight European Championships.
