Albanian football in mourning / One of Elbasan's best strikers passes away

The Elbasan sports community is in mourning. Ferdinand Shkalla, one of Elbasan's best and most intelligent strikers, has passed away at the age of 86. According to an announcement made by his family, Shkalla passed away this weekend.

He started playing football in 1953, but the peak of his career with the Labinoti team was in 1964-1970 when he played alongside the most prominent footballers from Elbasan such as Enver Ibërshimi, Frederik Jorgaqi, Bashkim Rudi, Xhevahir Taushani, Fadil Kovaçi, Mjeshtër Sporti, Hyqmet Kratin, Mjeshtër Sporti and team captain, and many talented young people who excelled on the football field.

Shkalla was activated in the role of advanced striker in the center and wore the number 9 shirt at Labinoti. At the age of 18, he was activated with the first team of Labinoti and was one of the best strikers of this team.

Ferdinand Shkalla is considered the most intelligent footballer from Elbasan and was recently named one of the 10 best footballers in Elbasan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Elbasan football team.

Shkalla, during his career as a striker for Labinot, scored 196 goals in official matches, friendly matches in the youth teams and the first team of the city of Elbasan.

Shkalla was the winner of the “Zëri i Popullit” newspaper cup in 1961 and the winner of the “Mësuesi” newspaper cup in 1962. Sports analysts of the time considered him an excellent ball user, a talented use of heel kicks, and a dangerous striker with long passes.

He was known for his incredible movements with and without the ball and for scoring spectacular goals with all parts of his body. Shkalla made a career not only as an excellent athlete and economist but also as a leader of important institutions of the time.
