Prime Minister Edi Rama, dressed “as if he were going for a drink” at the Maximos residence during his meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis – blamed his protocol. He said he did not expect such a reception from the Greek prime minister…

Once again, Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, drew attention not for his political stances, but for his clothing style choices.

Rama, in his meeting with his Greek counterpart, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, did not make the well-known bowing gesture as he had done with Giorgia Meloni, but appeared wearing white sneakers and a simpler suit, as if for a walk.

He even apologized for this, blaming his protocol for not informing him that he was going to the Maximos residence, the office of the Greek Prime Minister.

"I apologize," Rama told Mitsotakis, "for not being dressed as formally as you, because I was not expecting such a reception. I hope that the Greek media will not interpret it differently, but only as a lack of information from my protocol."

Mitsotakis responded with humor: "We know you are always very creative in the way you dress, and we like that."

Regarding the political part, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that it is always useful to make an assessment of the significant progress in bilateral relations and reiterated Greece's support for Albania's difficult path towards the European Union.

“However,” he added, addressing Rama, “we still have an important opportunity to resolve the remaining issues and strengthen the true friendship between our two peoples. That is why it is a pleasure to welcome you back to Athens, and I know you enjoy coming here.”

For his part, Edi Rama said that he feels relieved "that everything that should remain in the past has remained there," which, according to him, gives him the opportunity to visit Greece more often, a country he likes very much.

He thanked Mitsotakis for his support and added that Albania is ready to continue and conclude a strategic partnership agreement, where all issues are addressed, emphasizing that according to him there are no more open topics between the two countries. He also underlined the desire for EU membership and to make the region more important in this regard.
