The soap opera of Lapaj's mandate ends/Zeqir Kordhoni: I want to become a deputy...

Candidate Zeqir Kordhoni does not give up his mandate as an MP, thus 'extinguishing' Ardriatik Lapaj's hopes of sitting in the Parliament in September. In a letter to the CEC a day ago, Kordhoni, who ran on the closed list of the Albania Becomes Initiative, asks to exercise his mandate as an MP if he is declared the winner.

The “Nisma Shqipëria Bëhet” coalition filled the closed list in Tirana with 12 names of fictitious candidates, who would burn the mandate, so that the one with the most votes from the open list would win. But Kordhoni seems not to be convinced to burn his mandate and so tells the chief commissioner Celibashi to ignore any other statement made by the Nisma Shqipëria Bëhet Coalition on his behalf. For Kordhoni to receive the mandate of the closed list, those in line before him must burn it.

"I, the undersigned Zeqir Kordhoni, have run for the "Nisma Shqiperia Behet" Coalition in the Tirana district in the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025.

Through this declaration signed before a notary today, on 15/07/2025, I wish to inform the Central Election Commission of my full willingness to exercise the function of deputy in the event that I am declared the winner, after the distribution of mandates in accordance with the rules set forth by the Electoral Code of the Republic of Albania.

In this context, I request that the CEC ignore any other declaration previously filed by the "Nisma Shqiperia Behet" Coalition or in my name and take into consideration only this declaration as a clear and valid expression of my will," the CEC letter states. 
The winner of the NSHB mandate in Tirana is currently Ana Dajko, while the most voted candidate from the open list is Adriatik Lapaj. For him to enter parliament, Ana Dajko and the 11 others from the closed list must refuse the mandate, so that the leader of the coalition can take the seat in the Assembly.
