Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, at a meeting of the General Council of the party he leads, the Vetëvendosje Movement, discussed the issue of electing the country's president.
Kurti said that Murat Jashari is the ideal figure for the head of state of Kosovo in this period.
On Saturday, the Democratic Party of Kosovo announced that it had asked Kurti to elect the president based on its proposal.
On this issue, Kurti proposed an open competition with proposals from each political entity.
Albin Kurti announced that on Monday he will meet with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, with whom he will discuss the issue of the president. And if the LDK also agrees to propose candidates for president, Kurti said that Vetëvendosje will also have a name.
The new president of Kosovo must be elected by March 4th at the latest; if this is not done, the country will go to new elections.
Current President Vjosa Osmani, former AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj, and former minister Arsim Bajrami have expressed their desire to run, but none of them have formalized their candidacy with the 30 signatures required by the Constitution.
