Her repertoire is very rich; there are dozens of popular, light songs, cantatas, ballads, etc. She has also made an important contribution to film music, where she has performed many songs as part of film music.
A 12-time winner of the festival, Vaçja gained fame during the communist era and was awarded the title of Merited Artist in 1973 and People's Artist in 1977. Vaçe Zela finally left the stage in 1992. She was married to Pjetër Rodić and together they have a daughter Irma. Since 2002, Zela has lived with her husband in Basel, Switzerland, to receive better health care.
She is the only living Albanian woman honored with the Order "Honour of the Nation" on December 24, 2002 by President Alfred Moisiu with the reason: "For rare values as an Outstanding Artist, with extraordinary popularity, for the masterful interpretation of the song of light and popular music, for the wealth that she created in the Albanian school of musical interpretation."
In honor of the singer, the year 2009 was announced by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports as "Viti Vaçe Zela". Finally, even a street in Tirana bears her name.
