Archaeological museum opens its doors, 3200 artifacts are exhibited along with the Beauty of Durrës

With 3,200 artifacts on display across two floors, the Archaeological Museum of Durrës has reopened its doors. It was restored as part of the EU Culture One program that restored and revitalized dozens of cultural heritage sites after the 2019 earthquake. EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato said that this project proves that the EU is not just a bureaucratic structure, but a partner that promotes solidarity and development.

"There are those who think that the EU is just a bureaucracy that embellishes things, but a program like this today shows the opposite. Solidarity is a fundamental principle of the EU and this program is not only related to the restoration of culture, but also to the revitalization of the country's natural landscape after the earthquake. It is now up to the Albanian partners to take the lead in keeping these revitalized objects alive," said Gonzato.

In his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Europe is a national mission.

"Europe is not always heartless, it has a heart, but it is deep and it takes patience and will to reach it and feel its beat. It is certain that that heart beats and to become part of the blood circulation of that heart is part of our national mission that comes from a long history, part of which is this museum as a witness to it", said the Prime Minister.

The Minister of Culture pointed out the interventions made, describing the museum as not just a collection of objects, but a public contract.

"A new, fully restored museum, where over 3,200 artifacts tell the story of the past in redesigned pavilions, with elements of technology that enable time travel, within the city of gladiators and Queen Teutë. We are not simply inaugurating a building; we are reinterpreting a space to tell the history, the city, the region, Albania with a museum line where the collection brings out the main historical periods, where the Beauty of Durrës, back home, stands out above all", said Minister Blendi Gonxhja.
