Netanyahu reacts to Hezbollah killing of 4 Israeli soldiers: We will stay in

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that he had ordered the Israeli military to carry out widespread strikes on dozens of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, in response to overnight attacks that killed four Israeli soldiers and wounded five others.

In a statement from his office, Netanyahu said the strikes were in response to a "criminal attack" by Hezbollah, which he called a "flagrant violation of the ceasefire."

"Following Hezbollah's attack, which is a flagrant violation of the ceasefire, I ordered the IDF last night to strike Hezbollah with force," he said.

According to the Israeli prime minister, the Israeli Armed Forces struck more than 80 targets of the organization and neutralized dozens of its fighters, while new operations against Hezbollah command centers in the Bekaa Valley followed.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel "will not tolerate attacks on its soldiers or territory" and that it will impose a "very high price" for such actions.

He also reiterated the commitment that Israeli forces will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon "for as long as necessary," with the aim of protecting the country's northern communities.

Along the same lines, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed that the Israeli Armed Forces will continue their presence in southern Lebanon, stressing that any violation of the ceasefire by Hezbollah will be met with strong military action.

"We will not allow any threat to our soldiers and citizens," he said, adding that forces would remain in a wide security zone from the coast to the Beaufort Mountains, with the aim of preventing attacks and destroying Hezbollah's infrastructure.

These developments come as Israel is facing increasing international pressure over the way it conducts operations in Lebanon, with US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, according to international media, issuing extremely harsh criticism of the Israeli government.

At the same time, Iran insists that Israel's complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon is a condition under the memorandum of understanding it signed with Washington.
