Trump calls Artemis II astronauts after completing trip around the Moon: You

President Donald Trump spoke to the crew of the Artemis II spacecraft on Monday after they completed their journey around the moon, telling them they made history as "modern-day pioneers."

"Today you made history and you made all of America really proud. Extremely proud," Trump told the crew during the phone call.

The president praised the four astronauts — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen — as "courageous" and "modern-day pioneers."

"America will be unmatched in space and in everything else we're doing, and we will continue to lead this whole thing, to the stars," Trump said.

The president added that more lunar trips are coming and ultimately "a big trip to Mars."

"Your mission paves the way for America to return to the lunar surface very soon," Trump said.
The Artemis II mission made history as its crew achieved the farthest distance ever recorded from Earth in a human spaceflight. This is a significant moment for space exploration and humanity's return to the Moon, as part of NASA's program.

The successful mission sets the stage for next year's Artemis III, which will see another Orion crew practice docking with lunar lander spacecraft in Earth orbit. The culminating lunar landing by two astronauts near the moon's south pole will follow on Artemis IV in 2028.
