Trump: Iran has been close to the deal four or five times, but...

United States President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Iran has been close to reaching a full deal with the US "four or five times," but, according to him, has repeatedly backed out at the last minute.
"Every time they agree, the next day they act like we never talked," Trump told Fox News. "That's happened four or five times. There's something wrong with them. Frankly, they're crazy."
He added: "And, because they are crazy, they cannot have nuclear weapons."
Trump also said that Iran had previously agreed to hand over its stockpile of enriched uranium to the United States during talks between the two countries.
"No nukes," Trump said, adding: "They would give us nuclear dust. Whatever we wanted."
In another appearance, Trump said: "The Iranians told me very clearly... that they intend to give us nuclear dust, as I call it," referring to the enriched uranium that was reportedly buried at the bombed nuclear sites.
He also said that Iranian officials had told the United States: "You're going to have to take it out. We don't have the capacity to do that."
Trump made similar comments to reporters before his visit to China, saying Iran had recently agreed to hand over its enriched nuclear material as part of a broader deal.
Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, have denied accepting the US conditions.
"The enrichment issue is complicated and, in order to reach a conclusion with the American side, we proposed that this discussion be postponed," Araqchi said on Friday.
Trump also told Fox News that Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed that the war should end.
Talks to end the war were suspended last week, when Iran and the US rejected each other's latest proposals.
The US and Iran continue to have major disagreements over a range of issues, including Tehran's enriched uranium and Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz, the vital waterway through which about 20 percent of the world's oil and gas supplies passed before the war, which broke out on February 28.
Tehran has always insisted that its nuclear program is only for civilian purposes, while the US, Israel and other Western countries have accused it of trying to develop an atomic bomb.
The US halted its attacks last month through a fragile ceasefire, which remains in effect.
Tehran has said it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the US ends its blockade of Iranian ports. Trump has threatened to resume attacks if Iran does not accept a deal./ REL
