Rutte: We will ensure that KFOR remains strong

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the KFOR mission will remain strong and ready for its mission. During his visit to North Macedonia, he emphasized that this country has long supported the peacekeeping mission.

Rutte emphasized that KFOR continues to play an essential role for security in Kosovo.

"North Macedonia has long supported our KFOR peacekeeping mission and for that I thank you. KFOR continues to play an important role in supporting sustainable security, for the benefit of all people living in Kosovo. We will continue to ensure that KFOR remains strong and ready for its mission," Rutte said.

The NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has announced that there are currently no significant changes to its force. NATO has said that its force is periodically reviewed and adjusted, in line with developments on the ground, so that the mission remains fit for purpose in fulfilling its mandate.

In the response from KFOR regarding calls on social media from citizens of Serbia, who asked Iran to, in addition to attacks on American bases in the Middle East, also strike the American base in Kosovo, it is stated that this force is periodically reviewed and adapted, in accordance with developments on the ground.

"KFOR's strength and posture are reviewed and adjusted periodically, as circumstances evolve, so that the mission remains fit for purpose. Currently, there are no significant changes under consideration," KFOR's response states.

In response, the NATO mission in Kosovo said the US continues to play a key role, with about 600 troops deployed in Kosovo. Italy has the largest number of troops, with over 900. In total, there are more than 4,600 KFOR troops in Kosovo.
