Reuters: US agrees to release frozen Iranian assets! Act that could help reopen

The United States has agreed to release frozen Iranian assets held in Qatar and other foreign banks, a senior Iranian source told Reuters.

The news agency reports that Tehran sees this move as a sign of seriousness in reaching a lasting peace agreement, on the eve of peace talks in Pakistan.

The source, who declined to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter, also told Reuters that the release of the assets is “directly related to ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.”

On the other hand, the United States has not yet made any comments and so far no details have emerged from the talks in Islamabad, but in the run-up to them there have been many statements from both sides.

Among the most recent critical voices is Mohammad Reza Aref, Iran's first vice president, who has reacted on social media.

In his message, he said that peace talks could produce an agreement if Washington works to meet US interests in line with Donald Trump's "America First" doctrine.

Aref added that there will be no agreement "if we are faced with representatives of 'Israel first'."

The world, he warned, will "face greater costs" if the talks fail and the US and Israel resume war on Iran.
