German media report: Washington plans to accelerate the withdrawal of its military forces from Europe!

The United States is planning to accelerate the withdrawal of its forces from bases in Europe and will present its proposals to NATO allies next month, the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported, citing an unidentified Pentagon source.

In May, Washington announced plans to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany, a move widely seen as a result of President Donald Trump's rift with Europeans over the war in Iran.

Germany hosts about 35,000 US troops, more than any other country in Europe.

The US Department of Defense said at the time that the withdrawal would be completed within six to 12 months.

The German newspaper did not specify how soon the withdrawal would happen or what areas it would cover. However, it said the US would present its plans to its allies at the upcoming NATO summit.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
