"I have no problem meeting them," Trump tells New York Post: I'm open to direct contact with Iran's leadership

US President Donald Trump is open to direct diplomatic contact with Iran's leadership, he said in an interview with the New York Post.
“I have no problem meeting them,” he said. “If they want to meet, and we have some very capable people, I have no problem meeting them.”
At the heart of the negotiations, Trump said, is a non-negotiable demand: Iran must give up any attempt to have nuclear weapons.
“Give up their nuclear weapons. That’s very simple,” he said. “There will be no nuclear weapons.”
Trump refused to specify what consequences Tehran could face in the event of a refusal or failure of negotiations, especially against the backdrop of the imminent expiration of the ceasefire.
“Well, I don’t want to talk about that with you,” he said when asked if the U.S. would escalate measures, such as seizing additional ships linked to Iran. “You can imagine. It wouldn’t be pretty.”
Asked if the US knows who is running Iran, Trump said: "We have some pretty good ideas and we think we're dealing with the right people."
