Bad weather, a state of emergency is declared in Rhodes and Lemnos

In Rhodes and Lemnos, a state of emergency has been declared by the General Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection at the request of the mayors. After the declaration of the state of emergency, the formation of commissions for the evidence of damage caused by the bad weather, Bora, has started.

In Rhodes, the state of emergency was officially announced at noon this Monday. It is recalled that on Saturday the island of Rhodes experienced the biggest flood phenomenon in its history.

Regarding Lemnos, the North Aegean Region announced that after the declaration of a state of emergency in Myrina, Atsiki and Nea Koutali of Lemnos Municipality, the Commission for Registration of Business Damages was established today for these Municipal Units affected by the natural disaster. The Commission's work was scheduled to begin tomorrow, December 3. The governor of the region, Kostas Moutzouris, has been in Lemnos since yesterday, while today the island will be visited by a government delegation from the Ministry of Climate Change.

The mayor of Lemnos, Eleonora Georgios, speaking to ERT Aegean, said that "there has been serious damage to the road network, the agricultural network, the water supply network, infrastructure such as municipal walls, road surfaces, bridges. The damages to houses, businesses, crops, greenhouses are huge, while the waters have not receded yet and we do not have a complete overview of the damages".

According to the statements of the regional governor of the South Aegean, Giorgos Chatzimarkos, the residents of Rhodes have had a very difficult night on Saturday.

"Rhodes was tested a lot. Dozens of extraction operations had to be carried out, in particularly difficult conditions that also led to the need for rescue operations for the men involved. The island was reinforced with forces arriving from Athens on a special flight and a 112 message has been sent out since dawn banning all movement. The state of emergency is in effect for 24 hours. Claims registration will not begin until the phenomenon is over.

There is extensive damage to the road network as well as to homes and businesses. So far there are no reports of missing persons and the area that received the biggest blow, Ialyssos, is being monitored by EMAK", the governor of the region had said on Saturday. He added that a large part of the island's road network has suffered significant damage.
