Who was Majid Khademi, the senior Iranian official who was killed today by a US-Israeli strike?

Majid Khademi, the Revolutionary Guards' intelligence chief who had accused Donald Trump of inciting anti-government protests in Iran, is the latest senior Tehran official to be killed in attacks since the start of the US-Israeli war against the Islamic Republic on February 28. The Israeli military announced today that Khademi, one of the three most senior officials in the Guards Corps, was killed along with another senior Revolutionary Guard officer in the overnight strikes.

"Khademi was one of the most senior commanders in the IRGC and had gained extensive experience over many years," the Israeli military (IDF) said in a post on X.

Israel also announced the killing of Yazdan Mir, known by the nickname Sardar Bagheri, who led the secretive Unit 840 of the Quds Force. They were among at least 25 people reportedly killed in overnight strikes on Iran, following Donald Trump's threat to turn the country into "hell" if it did not agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed Khadem's death, saying the "strong and educated" head of its Intelligence Organization "was killed in a criminal terrorist attack by the American-Israeli enemy."

Khademi had replaced his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, in 2025, following his death during the 12-day Iran-Israel war. He had served for decades in intelligence and counterintelligence positions, gradually rising through the ranks of the Iranian security services.

Before his appointment, he had been the head of the Revolutionary Guard's Intelligence Protection Organization, which is responsible for domestic surveillance, since 2022, and had also held senior positions in Iran's Defense Ministry.

The IRGC's intelligence wing is one of the most powerful security mechanisms in Iran, playing a central role in domestic surveillance to counter foreign influence, often acting in conjunction with the civilian Ministry of Intelligence.
