Canada announces $4.5 billion fund to help those affected by US tariffs

Canada on Friday announced billions of dollars in aid and other forms of support for businesses and individuals expected to be directly affected by U.S. tariffs.
These measures include over 6.5 billion Canadian dollars, or $4.52 billion in financial assistance, to help companies find new international markets, withstand losses, access soft loans and prevent layoffs, a group of ministers said.
Canada relies on the United States for 75% of its exports and a third of all imports. This dependence on trade for economic growth leaves the country vulnerable in the event of a protracted trade war.
In addition to financial assistance, the Canadian government is working to diversify export markets, focusing on trade agreements with other countries and promoting Canadian products in new international markets. These steps are aimed at reducing dependence on the American market and increasing economic resilience in the event of trade tensions with the United States.
