Iran hits giant oil tanker off Dubai coast

Dubai authorities announced that a fire caused by a drone attack on an oil tanker has been brought under control, without causing an oil leak or injuries among the crew.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning (March 31), when a large tanker loaded with crude oil was hit off the coast of Dubai by an Iranian drone. The vessel, the Al-Salmi, suffered significant material damage and caught fire.
According to local authorities, the flames were brought under control within a short time, and no marine pollution or injuries were reported.
The company "Kuwait Petroleum Corp", owner of the ship, announced that the attack had occurred in the early hours of Monday and had caused damage to the tanker's hull.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned that the United States could take tough action against Iran, including striking energy facilities and oil fields, if Tehran does not open the Strait of Hormuz.
Following the attack, crude oil prices temporarily rose. The tanker hit has the capacity to transport about 2 million barrels of oil, worth more than $200 million at current market prices.
