"America and Europe belong together"/ Marco Rubio kicks off Munich Security Conference

The US Secretary of State sent strong messages of unity with Europe today from the Munich Security Conference. He stated that it is not the aim or desire of Americans for the end of the transatlantic era, but that they want a strong Europe capable of responding to any challenge.
Europe and the United States belong together. With this strong message, and amidst applause, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio addressed the Munich Security Conference.
"With President Trump, the United States of America will once again take up the task of renewal and recovery, guided by a vision of a future as proud and sovereign as the past of our civilization. And while we are prepared, if necessary, to do this alone, our preference and hope is to do it together with you, our friends here in Europe."
Rubio stated that it is not the intention nor the desire of Americans for the end of the transatlantic era.
"Because for us Americans, our home may be in the Western Hemisphere, but we will always be children of Europe."
But what then are the clashes, rifts and tensions between historical partners here and across the ocean? Marco Rubio gives it a defining word: care.
"The reason why, my friends, is because we care deeply. We care about your future and ours. And if we sometimes disagree, our disagreements come from our deep concern for a Europe to which we are connected, not just economically, not just militarily. We are connected spiritually and culturally. We want Europe to be strong. We believe that Europe must survive," Rubio said.
And this is how Americans love their allies: "We want allies who can defend themselves, so that no adversary is tempted to test our collective strength. That is why we do not want our allies held hostage by guilt and shame. We want allies who are proud of their culture and heritage, who understand that we are heirs to the same great and noble civilization and who, together with us, are willing and able to defend it," Rubio emphasized.
And to put it plainly: "We do not seek to separate, but to revive an old friendship and renew the greatest civilization in human history. We should be proud of what we achieved together in the last century. But now we must face and embrace the opportunities of a new century," Rubio declared.
While everyone was attentive to the messages that Americans would express at this important conference, its chairman, Wolfgang Ischinger, asked with relief:
"I'm not sure if you heard the sigh of relief in this room when we heard what I would interpret as a message of security and partnership."
Meanwhile, the American test with the Russians over Ukraine continues, as the Russians still cannot be trusted if they want the war to end.
"Because we don't know. We don't know if the Russians are serious about ending the war. They say they are, but under what conditions are they willing to do it, and whether we can find acceptable terms for Ukraine that Russia will always accept. But we will continue to test that," Rubio said.
The US Secretary of State, asserted that there is no alignment of Russian-American interests other than the goal of avoiding economic conflict, but even more serious than that. Rubio underlined that challenges with Russia and China remain present, but must be managed to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
"So there are long-term challenges that we're going to have to deal with that are going to be frustrating in our relationship with China. That's not just true for the United States, but for the West more broadly. But I think we should try to manage them as best we can to avoid unnecessary friction, if possible ," Rubio said.
It was a strong message of unity with Europe from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. It was a speech that marked a sharp change from a year earlier, when on the same stage, Vice President JD Vance attacked European leaders, accusing them of censoring free speech and failing to control immigration.
