Hormonal therapy in the QSUT? The Ministry of Health reacts: The guide constitutes a clinical orientation document

Deputy Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Eugena Tomini, explained today that the guideline on hormonal treatment constitutes a clinical orientation document and not a definitive therapeutic protocol. This guideline has been drafted based on international practices and recommendations, as well as the evaluation of a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
According to Deputy Minister Tomini, the document aims to guide healthcare professionals in the process of recommending hormonal therapy for individuals referred for this service and does not recommend starting treatment in childhood.
She emphasized that the guide refers only to adults in this target group, in accordance with applicable legislation and on the basis of individual informed consent.
Regarding the issue of reimbursement, Tomini explained that the guideline does not address or define reimbursement schemes for hormonal medications. According to her, the document only includes general recommendations and different types of hormonal therapies, based on international clinical practices.
