"Now they call it Trump Island", Italian media: Ivanka and Jared spent $1.4 billion on Sazani, 1,000 jobs created

The transformation of the island of Sazan in southern Albania, by the daughter of US President Donald Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, continues to receive the attention of international media, especially our Italian neighbors.
The magazine "AD Italia" writes that Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner spent $1.4 billion to own the island of Sazan, which, according to journalist Laura Pacelli, they now call "Trump Island."
"The couple officially received the green light to fully proceed with their project from Prime Minister Edi Rama, who on December 30 approved Atlantic Incubation Partners LLC's plan for the major construction project and a $1.4 billion investment. The project is in line with Albanian legislation on strategic investments and job creation requirements, with around 1,000 employees.
"Under Albanian law, a project can be approved as a strategic investment when it falls within a priority economic sector, such as tourism, thus allowing the investor to proceed with its development plan," the article states.

A project dating back to 2024
"The state's participation in this investment will be achieved through the creation of a joint legal entity," the committee commented, noting that it will also include the Albanian Investment Corporation. However, the plan to invest in Albania dates back several years, to 2024. When Kusher and Ivanka received preliminary approval from the Albanian government in June 2025, controversy quickly erupted : shortly before, Donald Trump had won the United States presidential election.

For everyone now it's "Trump Island"
“The fact that such a well-known American entrepreneur is showing interest in investing in Albania makes us very proud and happy,” a representative of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama told the Times in 2024. Since then, negotiations have continued until they became a reality today. Even before the agreement was signed, locals began calling the island “Trump Island” or “Trump Island.” And so it will be.
The Kushners are no strangers to real estate ventures. Before President Trump entered politics, he himself was known for his career as a real estate developer. The Kushner family also owns a vast portfolio of commercial, residential and retail properties in and around New York City. However, this project marks the couple's first venture into the luxury hotel sector. But all that glitters is not gold.

Revitalizing the island, with Albania's contribution
According to Italian journalist Marzio Mian, who visited the island in July 2024, shortly after Ivanka and Kushner’s plans for the 1,300-acre (560-hectare) property were revealed, the island was (and still is) littered with “signs depicting skulls and crossbones, warning of the presence of landmines,” warning visitors not to stray too far from specific paths to avoid encountering unexploded ordnance. But plans to clear the island are already underway: as early as July 2020, the Albanian government announced that members of the country’s armed forces had been dispatched to Sazan to begin clearing it of any dangerous munitions.
After Ivanka and Kushner's plans for their resort received preliminary approval, the Albanian government confirmed that it will work with them to continue clearing the island of all unexploded and buried weapons. As for the dilapidated military buildings and 3,600 abandoned bunkers on the island, the couple is reportedly planning to reclaim them. They have called in top architects and design brands to transform the resort into an "extraordinary" property.// AD Italia, Laura Pacelli
