Microcredit scandal, soon with culprits? SPAK is investigating 3 files, Governor Sejko is questioned 2 times
The microcredit file continues to be open at SPAK! The 'evidence' for this was the questioning of the former rector of the University of Tirana, Dhori Kule, who was summoned by the investigators of the case. But it seems that he is not and will not be the only one who will have to account for the damage done to citizens through the bad credit fraud. Another person who has been summoned for questioning, not once, but twice, is the governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko.
Confidential sources from the BKH inform ZċRI that the governor was questioned, but it is not known how he was able to enter and exit the building, being noticed by journalists and television cameras that stand in front of the building of the Special Prosecution Institution every day.
But how, who and what is being investigated?
SPAK has several parallel investigations related to the microcredit issue. The investigation into Governor Sejko and his associates at the Bank of Albania is being pursued by prosecutor Dorina Bejko, who has taken over the report filed by the Bailiffs' Chamber. According to the same sources, the investigations are nearing completion and are expected to be submitted to the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime very soon. But there is still no official confirmation. In addition to this case, another investigation is being conducted by investigator Edvin Kondili regarding the report filed by Justice Minister Ulsi Manja against Olsi Ibro's "MCA" and Arben Meskuti's "Final". In 2024, like the other two cases, a third file was filed. The investigation launched into a loan fraud case allegedly revealed links between the Bank of Albania's top directors, Deniz Deralla and Altin Naqe, and the microcredit scheme. The investigation is expected to reveal where this connection lies.
However, it is not known whether all these cases will be summarized in a single file, or whether they will be investigated separately and unrelated to each other. We will learn more when SPAK takes action to hold accountable all those who deceived more than 100 thousand Albanians who fell prey to the "pyramid" scheme.
The first to announce that the microcredit scandal was being investigated by the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime was the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja. He gave the news during a report to the Laws Committee on May 10, 2024. But there were also open cases in the Tirana Prosecution Office, which apparently also passed to SPAK. A few months ago, Micro Credit Albania and Final, both debt collection and bad credit companies, were placed under seizure by order of the Tirana Prosecution Office. The companies are charged with the criminal offense of "fraud with serious consequences and committed more than once and in collaboration" and for "laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense". However, so far, the Tirana Prosecution Office has not provided any clarification as to whose money was "laundered" through this company that is already under seizure. That in addition to these issues, SPAK was also investigating, confirmed the head of the institution, Altin Dumani. In the report he is making to the Laws Committee, Dumani was asked about several issues, but he chose to remain silent about microcredits, contenting himself with just: I'm investigating!
For several years now, ZŽRI has been reporting on testimonies of victims who fell prey to fraudulent advertisements to obtain loans from these offices. These institutions, through online and television advertisements, created a false perception among citizens that they were just like other banks. In fact, in reality, these offices provide loans quickly and at rates beyond normal. Without any filter, these institutions provide loans to citizens in situations that they can never repay. This is where the ordeal of abuse began. Bad loans, including those of banks, were sold to MCA. The case is now in the hands of SPAK and "Pandora's" box is expected to be opened. Even more so when one of these victims, Pal Trashaj, ended his life at the doors of SPAK. He had gone to the Special Prosecutor's Office to report his case, but in desperation, he consumed photoxine, ending his life. Olsi Ibro, the owner of "Micro Credit Albania", also chose a similar end. The latter chose to end his life by jumping from a building./ VOICE
