Tensions and incidents were recorded this weekend in the village of Dardhë, in the Hotolisht Administrative Unit of the Librazhd municipality, where a group of residents, in a sign of revolt, demolished the fence surrounding a hydroelectric power plant (HEP), accusing the administrator of this HEP that his activity is depriving them of access to drinking water and the water needed for irrigation of agricultural lands.
Footage from the scene shows residents entering the building, in a tense situation that, according to them, is the result of a long-standing problem and the lack of response from the responsible institutions.
According to the residents' claims, the conflict is related to the use of water resources in the area known as "Gurra e Bardhë". They state that there was a previous agreement with the HEC administrator and local institutions that during the summer season priority would be given to supplying the community with water for consumption and irrigation, but they claim that this agreement has never been respected and during this year the situation has worsened extremely badly.
Residents also raise suspicions that the fence surrounding the facility was built without the relevant legal documentation and state that, despite continuous complaints and requests, they have not received a concrete solution from the authorities.
Incidents of this nature demonstrate the mismanagement of natural resources and the lack of balance between public interest and private activity. On the one hand, the residents of Dardhë village argue that they are defending a vital right, that of access to water, while on the other hand, the damage to property raises issues that require legal and institutional treatment.
To date, there has been no official reaction from the responsible institutions regarding the incident or the allegations raised by the residents. It is expected that the authorities will verify the circumstances of the incident, the legality of the allegations, and take the necessary steps to clarify the situation and avoid further escalation of the conflict.
