The failure to perform kidney transplants at the Urology and Nephrology Service at the University Hospital of Tirana hides the backstage and casts a shadow of suspicion that everything is done to favor private hospitals.

An average of 14 patients have undergone this procedure each year because their kidney is out of function at Hygeia Hospital and American Hospital, funded by the state budget.

Meanwhile, at the University Hospital of Kosovo, the transplant surgery room, well-equipped with modern technology equipment, having been built thanks to a 3 million euro investment from the Italian "Intereg" project, has remained closed since the first transplants were performed in 2009.

But what happened next? Why was the performance of this kidney transplant procedure in the public service discontinued? And not for a short while, but for several years.

The fact is that transplants are performed, but with one difference: in the operating rooms of two private hospitals owned by businessman Klodian Allajbeu, where the Albanian state pays nearly 20 thousand euros for a transplant.

Is it a coincidence that the transplant room at the QSUT is locked?

In an official response, the QSUT directorate admits that kidney transplants are part of the health packages financed by the Insurance Fund in non-public hospitals, but denies the investment of 3 million euros made by the Intereg project.

Meanwhile, the facts are stubborn, as there are three patients who underwent the transplant in the public service in 2009, where the current head of the Nephrology service, Arjana Strakosha, also assisted. Sinkron Anila Godo are indisputable witnesses, three patients who underwent the transplant.

Top Channel contacted well-known doctors who have worked and continue to work at the QSUT, who say that the threads are tied together elsewhere.

Trusted sources say that this scheme is intentional so that state budget funds planned for transplants go into Allajbe's coffers.

Trusted sources say that the former deputy director of the QSUT, Arjana Strakosha, who is also the head of the Nephrology service, one of the two services responsible for performing transplants, has close ties to Allajbeu's businesses. Her family members hold key positions in Allajbeu's businesses.

The son of the head of Nephrology, Arber Teqja, is involved in Allajbeu's buying and selling maneuvers to gain as many tenders as possible in the Health sector. The most recent maneuver is with Eco Riciklim Shpk, which deals with the treatment of hospital waste.

In this business, the son of the former head of the Nephrology service owned 70% of the shares, but in February 2025, Teqja sold his shares to the company "ANA Mark" for a value of 60 thousand euros, where Klodian Allajbeu turns out to be the owner of 100% of the shares.

But how can a company that runs and wins tenders worth millions of euros in healthcare sell its shares at such a low value?

This once again confirms Allajbeu's maneuvers in buying and selling shares in companies and businesses to benefit and almost monopolize every tender in Health. Coincidentally, in the same year, Allajbeu's company won a tender for the management of hospital waste at the University Hospital Center worth approximately 37 million lek./TCH
