For the first time, direct flights between Albania and Canada

Tirana International Airport (TIA) and Air Transat are pleased to announce the opening of the first direct non-stop route between Tirana and Toronto, marking a historic moment for Albanian aviation.

This service marks the first transoceanic flight by TIA and the first direct air connection between Albania and the North Atlantic region.

The inaugural flight from TIA will take place on June 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM, while the first flight from Toronto is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at 10:00 PM. The aircraft that will operate this route will be an Airbus A330-200, with a capacity of approximately 350 seats. Flights will continue during the summer season until October 9, 2026, with a weekly frequency.

The new airline responds to the growing demand for direct flights not only between Albania, but also countries in the region and Canada. It is estimated that around 60 thousand passengers travel in this direction annually, mainly for tourism, family visits and the needs of diaspora communities.

Canada is home to a large regional Albanian diaspora community, who have been in need of a direct air connection to Albania for years. The Tirana-Toronto flight significantly simplifies the journey, making it faster and more practical for passengers.

This line is also expected to positively impact the development of tourism, business activity and cultural exchanges, while Tirana further strengthens its role as an air connection point for the region.

The opening of this destination is the result of close and effective cooperation between Tirana International Airport and Air Transat, reflecting a joint commitment to expanding air connections and responding to market demand with quality and reliable air services.

The commitment of the Albanian Government and the close coordination of state authorities was crucial in finalizing the air connectivity agreement between Albania and Canada in record time.

The opening of the Tirana-Toronto route has been made possible thanks to the Kastrati Group's continuous investments in the modernization of Tirana International Airport, which have provided the necessary infrastructural and operational capacities for this intercontinental destination.

The Director of Operations of Tirana International Airport , Mr. Piervittorio Farabbi , said :

"The opening of the Tirana-Toronto route with Air Transat is a major achievement for TIA and for Albania. This is our first transoceanic service and our first direct connection to the North Atlantic."

We congratulate Air Transat for their trust and thank all the teams and parties involved for the excellent cooperation. Together, we are opening new horizons for passengers, tourism and economic ties between Albania, the region and Canada.”

“We are proud to become the first airline to offer direct, non-stop service between North America and Albania,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat .

“This route will support the growth of tourism in Albania and the Balkans, while offering passengers in the region easy access to Canada and further connections throughout North America through our network and partnership with Porter Airlines.”

The Tirana-Toronto route further strengthens TIA's expanding network and underscores the airport's strategic focus on long-term growth, improving connectivity, and developing Tirana as an aviation hub for the region.
