Italian carabinieri have arrested a 28-year-old Albanian man, suspected of running a drug trafficking cell in the neighboring country.
The operation took place in the Ragusa area, and during the intervention the suspect was caught red-handed with two pistols and 10 kg of narcotics.
Frequent and unplanned visits to an apartment near Via Risorgimento attracted the attention of the Carabinieri of Ragusa, who launched an investigation into the property.
Surveillance efforts identified a person who frequented the reported address and who often quickly left the area by car, returning after several hours.
During a detailed patrol on Thursday afternoon, officers again saw the young man speeding down the main road. They decided to stop him and inspect the vehicle he was driving.
They then expanded the search to the house where the 28-year-old was seen, which was different from his current residence. There, they found approximately 7 kg of hashish, 2.5 kg of ecstasy, 25 grams of cocaine and 30 grams of cocaine, as well as materials used for cutting, packaging and drying the drugs, for a total of almost 10 kg of narcotics.
The continued search also led to the discovery and seizure of two unlicensed pistols, without serial numbers, along with their magazines and 11 rounds of ammunition, hidden inside a metal box, along with paramilitary-style clothing suitable for camouflage.
16,700 euros in cash, stored inside a wall safe, were also seized, Italian media reports .
Based on the findings of the carabinieri, the young man was arrested and, after the necessary formalities were carried out, he was taken to the Ragusa prison where he will be held by the judicial authorities of Iblea, who will assess his level of responsibility in court, as required by law.
