Low fan interest in opening of Club World Cup, FIFA intervenes to fill stadium

The Club World Cup kicks off on the night between Saturday and Sunday, and FIFA is facing a major problem. Interest in the competition is nowhere near what they had hoped.

The first match of the Club World Cup in the new 32-team format will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami between Inter Miami and Al-Ahly from Egypt.

FIFA deliberately scheduled this match for the opening of the competition because it hoped that Lionel Messi would attract spectators, but that did not happen.

The Hard Rock Stadium has a capacity of 65,000 seats and only 20,000 tickets were sold.

Tickets went on sale in December and at that time the cheapest price was up to 303 euros.

Since sales were disastrous, prices were continuously reduced and now tickets can be purchased for 48 euros.

But that's not all. FIFA, fearing half-empty stands, signed a contract with Miami Dade College, which has 100,000 students, and every student who buys a ticket, which costs 3.5 euros, gets four free tickets.

"The stadium will be full and the atmosphere will be incredible. It is true that there are still free seats, but we will sell tickets in the coming days," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
