Musiala broke his leg, Donnarumma reacts: I'm sorry, but I'm not

Donnarumma has reacted after the serious injury he caused to Bayern talent Musiala.

He did not stay with Musiala for those minutes because he was shocked by the injury, which of course, he would never want to inflict on a colleague. However, Gianluigi Donnarumma ended up in the media and social networks' target, after the World Cup quarter-final between PSG and Bayern Munich.

And he was also heavily criticised by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who accused him of having intervened in an unnecessary and hasty manner. A version disputed by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who will challenge Gigi in the semi-finals.

Donnarumma himself stated after the incident to the daily "La Gazzetta dello sport" saying: "I am very shocked by what happened, because it was obviously not my intention to harm Musiala."

With a sudden move, Donnarumma intervened to take the ball from Musiala. An intervention that was considered legal and not punished by referee Taylor. "It's a matter of tenths of a second - underlines his agent, Vincenzo Raiola -, it only takes a moment for the wait to turn into a penalty. Gigio was the first to reach the ball and could not avoid the intervention. It is unfair to think that he wanted to harm Musiala, who we wish him a speedy recovery to come back stronger than before".

From the TV footage, Donnarumma looks disoriented: he leaves, gets on his knees, starts walking towards the bench and returns with a frown. "He didn't want to act as if nothing had happened," the agent continued, "Gigio is a very sensitive guy. He wouldn't have been able to handle the scene and preferred to leave so that the doctors could take care of Musiala as best they could. After entering the dressing room, he even turned on his phone. In all the years we've worked together, he's never done that. He usually turns it off an hour before the start of the match to concentrate on the game and turns it back on after the match. This time he sent me a message to tell me he was shocked and that he hadn't done it on purpose."

In the second half, the fans booed him. There was also no shortage of public criticism of Neuer: “Actually – admits Raiola – I understand Neuer. As Courtois says, it is normal for him to defend his teammate. And he is right when he says that you can act differently on the field. It is true, but we are all different and everyone behaves as they can. It was a game episode in the eternal duel between goalkeepers and strikers. In December, Gigio almost lost an eye in a collision with a Monaco player (Singo). And Neuer also kicked Higuain in 2014, in a match between national teams. He then apologized although he admitted that he wanted to avoid a danger to his team, knowing that he risked injuring the opponent.

At the end of the match, Gigio consulted Raiola about whether he should go and visit Musiala in hospital: "He was very worried and sad". In the following hours he posted a message of support and congratulations for the German, which was also joined by president Al Khelaifi. But if PSG is preparing for the semi-final with Real Madrid, the goalkeeper's contract, which expires in 2026 with the French, is still pending: "We are talking to each other - Raiola concludes -, such a long negotiation is not unusual because we are talking about the strongest goalkeeper in Europe"
