The Swiss Olympic athlete dies after being hit by an avalanche

The Olympic snowboarder, Sophie Hediger, died after an accident (she was caught by an avalanche) in Arosa, on Monday, the Swiss Ski Federation announced.
Hediger, 26, was a member of the national snowboard team and competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics in China before achieving her first two World Cup podiums during the 2023-24 season.
Swiss-Ski sports executive director Walter Reusser said: "We are speechless and our thoughts go out to Sophie's family, to whom we offer our deepest condolences.
For the Swiss-Ski family, Sophie's tragic death has cast a dark shadow over the Christmas period. We are extremely sad."
Swiss-Ski said no additional information would be released about Hediger's death, a decision that was made in agreement with her family and partner.
