The documentary focusing on the people of Arbëresh, Lorik Cana reveals everything about the special project that is bringing...

Lorik Cana was invited to the show "Pardon My French". The former captain of our national football team has revealed more exclusive details about his newest project for Albanians and Arberes in Sicily and Calabria. A very interesting documentary which premieres tomorrow.
How did this whole idea come about and what was the 'spark' for Lorik Cana that gave him the impetus to realize this project?
The documentary, a launch that is part of a slightly wider panorama that I have in my activities, especially after I left football in 2016. It is part of the "Lorik Cana 5" foundation and is divided into two main areas, the first of sport for its promotion and the growth of sport for our children, the other part is cultural representation, cultural heritage and we do that with our Diaspora and being based in Rome. The part of representation and cultural activities is in my desire and in my plans. Last year was dedicated to this extraordinary story of Arbëresh and it is not by chance.
The first purpose is to shine a light on the reality which we know better but which is quite important where our people more than 5 or 6 centuries in another country like Italy have become a general part of that country. They gave important people to Italy. They have been essential even in the moment of our rebirth to learn how to live. Above all, to have a more natural point of view because the documentaries will be serialized and are made in such a way that it is not from a journalistic point of view, we have done it in a way that it is as if someone has heard of them but not knows. I don't know where they are, I don't know how they are and how they speak. We have done it in this way so that they follow us through people, to teach them Arbëresh.
Given that for 600 years they have preserved all this, doesn't it feel like in these moments that the whole globe is experiencing globalization, social networks, isn't this a difficult moment? So being part of the development of the English language and not only they are no longer closed and 'isolated' as they were in the beginning. Has Lorik sensed some kind of danger?
The first point why we did this is to keep it only in Albanian - Albanian - Arabic. Even in the way it was communicated during the documentary, sometimes I don't understand what they are saying. After 600 years, a moment of the chain is passing which is being broken due to the reasons, as we said, of globalization and for the reason that it is a large part of the youth that has run away. Those towns have begun to fade little by little, not from the belonging of being Arbers but from the part of the language that is essential. On the other hand, it is an anthropological miracle that for us is a unique case.
He met the Arbëreshes up close, what moved Lorik Cana the most and what impressed him the most?
Many things, the way they have ingrained this belonging. We have tried to be inspired by what we have found.
