Electoral reform/ Rama: The opposition with ultimatums will not succeed with me! Gonzato: We are following them closely, the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations must be fulfilled

Prime Minister Edi Rama said about the administrative-territorial and electoral reform that the process is continuing in a comprehensive manner, while referring to the opposition's positions, he said that ultimatums do not work. Regarding the year 2027 as the objective for closing the group chapters and the year 2030 as the year for finalizing EU membership, Rama said that these are objectives set jointly with the EU.
Rama: Regarding the electoral reform, you should contact the leader of this process, Damian Gjiknuri, he can give you a complete overview of our approach regarding this reform, I have personally said and I repeat, we are open to listening patiently to those who sit at the table to talk and listen. I believe that impositions and ultimatums and predetermined positions have been around for a long time to understand that they do not work with me. We are interested in reducing the number of members of parliament and I hope that there is consensus in this regard. From here, any other discussion is open. The administrative reform, the process has been developed in a comprehensive manner, hearings and discussions have been held.
As for 2027, it is a jointly set objective, but a space has been left that could supposedly be an extension until mid-2028. We are more or less on the same wavelength. And for this reason 2030 has been set as an objective.
Meanwhile, Gonzato stated that the process of fulfilling the administrative-territorial and electoral reforms is being closely followed by the European Union. As for the objectives for 2027 and 2030, Gonzato said that this strategy keeps the parties focused on the process.
Gonzato: Electoral reform, one of the requirements that we have specified is that Albania must meet the ongoing recommendations from the OSCE. It is part of democratic standards. Democratic pluralism is important. And territorial-administrative reform, Albania must have a local administration that benefits from its membership in the EU. All the programs that the EU has are related to local and regional governance. As for the 2027 objective, I have always said that it is important to have a clear objective that keeps the parties focused. And this has shown its value that there has been a full commitment of the EC and the member states to follow this process.
