"Better an old jacket than..."/ Arben Malaj talks about the 34th anniversary of the Socialist Party: Leaders with long mandates are autocrats! I wanted the Socialist Party to modernize

Former Minister of Finance in the socialist government before 2005, Arben Malaj was on News 24 to talk about the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party. Malaj says that today in the Socialist Party, there is a group of greedy people who rule.

"The greedy in the SP have always hoped that I would make the moral mistake of creating a new party because of the leftovers. I have never done it, because gratitude to the party and ordinary socialists is eternal. We created a group within the SP, in the philosophical debate with Rama that the SP should be modernized before coming to power. While Rama applied the method of coming to power and then modernizing. What is the result? Some are in prison."

Malaj thinks that Rama is an autocratic leader, as his long tenure in leading the country and the party makes him so.

"Political leaders with long mandates are not democratic leaders. They are leaders who have fallen prey to the mentality of conquering their people. There was Stalin, Hitler, Orbán governs autocratically. Only the form has changed. I defended the idea that the people are not to blame, it is the leaders who are elected. All leaders in transition have been tried. The only time when the people should have felt guilty was in 2025 when there were new parties."

As for the war that Rama launched when he took over the leadership of the Socialist Party against the old jackets, it was a class war similar to what Enver Hoxha once waged.

"Better an old jacket from the 90s than a signature suit stained by greed, where half of them are in prison. No, no. The concept of the old jackets was about class struggle. Like Enver did. The form of marketing has changed. Where they find an opportunity, they compromise the media and public figures."
