Foltorja/ Berisha: Rama challenged Albanians and internationals, telling them that the fight against corruption is more harmful than corruption
The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in his speech at the podium in front of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that "Edi Rama, after being arrested, publicly declared that corruption will be protected, not fought."
"He publicly declared to every Albanian that the fight against corruption is more harmful than corruption itself. With this, he told the Albanian citizens that nothing in the world prevents me from continuing to steal from them with all the power I have. This was the most unheard-of statement ever in the history of a country. But to anyone who might think that this is a statement without substance, I say no, you are wrong. This statement was made at a time when Albanians have made the strongest protests against their theft, against the protection of corruption. This statement was made when the international community has brought to Tirana leading ministers of Europe, has brought to Tirana commissioners of the European Commission. It has brought the most blunt, clear messages that we will not tolerate the theft of Albanian citizens by the government," Berisha said.
"In the entire history of the state, never before has the international community made such powerful moves. In addition, two fact-finding delegations, one from the European Parliament composed of MPs from across the political spectrum. Representatives of 30 center-right political parties were here for fact-finding. I said ministers, the German Foreign Minister, the German Minister for Europe, the EC Commissioner for Law, came here to give the message that corruption cannot be defended. That the rule of law is the condition of all conditions for Albania. What was Edi Rama's response? Edi Rama's response was that the fight against corruption brings more problems than corruption itself. There is no more serious challenge than this. There is no more humiliating challenge for Albanians than this," Berisha added.
