WMO report: 2025 among the 3 hottest years in history
According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the year 2025 is expected to be among the warmest years ever recorded.
Specifically, the second or third hottest year on record.
This indicates the continuation of extremely high global warming trends, marking another year of record temperatures.
According to the WMO report, the period 2015–2025 includes each of the 11 hottest years since records began over 176 years ago.
WMO experts explain that this record warming is mainly caused by record concentrations of greenhouse gases and the accumulation of heat in the oceans.
Sea ice and glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, while extreme weather events are causing profound social and economic upheaval.
Since 2015, the expansion of the global Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) has more than doubled, but about 40 percent of countries still do not have such a system.
The latest WMO report aims to inform the COP30 conference and support countries in their efforts to strengthen resilience to climate change.
Climate services are crucial to sustaining life and protecting economies from the effects of rising global temperatures.
The WMO warns that without effective measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen resilience to climate change, the trend of extreme global warming could continue, making the coming years even hotter.
