"Lucifer", a new bee species discovered in Australia

A new species of bee, dubbed the “Lucifer” has been discovered in Australia. The bee is named “Lucifer” because of the devilish appearance that the small horns on its head give it. Researchers announced the discovery on Tuesday and it was found in Western Australia,

While studying a wildflower, Curtin University's School of Molecular and Life Sciences scientist Kit Prendergast discovered this bee, which immediately caught her attention because of its unique appearance.

“The female had very small horns on her head,” she noted in a university publication.

The scientist, a fan of the television series "Lucifer" that she watched on Netflix, decided that this name perfectly suited the devilish appearance that characterizes this bee.

" It's the first new member of the bee colony in more than 20 years, which shows how much life we still have to discover, including in areas threatened by metal mining, such as the Goldfields, where Lucifer was discovered ," Prendergast noted.

Experts hope this discovery will raise awareness about the many unknown species that may exist in these areas.
