Czechs vote today for a new parliament, which is likely to see billionaire Andrej Babis return to power.

Babis returns with promises to increase wages, boost economic development and, at the same time, reduce aid to Ukraine.

The change from the current center-right government could strengthen the populist and anti-immigration camp in Europe, as well as opposition to the European Union's climate goals.

Voting centers reopened this morning at 08:00 and citizens can vote until 14:00.

The first preliminary results are expected to be announced today. According to sources, there will be no predictions based on polls after the vote.

More than 8 million registered voters are electing members of the 200-member parliament.

According to polls, the right-wing populist opposition party ANO, led by billionaire former prime minister Andrej Babis, is expected to emerge as the largest political force.

Meanwhile, the center-right alliance Spolu, led by current Prime Minister Petr Fiala, is expected to suffer losses.

71-year-old Babis, voting yesterday in the industrial city of Ostrava in eastern Czechia, declared that he is aiming for an absolute majority for his party.

He is an ally of Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, in the European Parliament's "Patriots for Europe" political grouping.

Babis, who was prime minister from 2017 to 2021, has taken an ambiguous stance on aid to Ukraine, while outgoing Prime Minister Petr Fiala is a staunch supporter of Kiev in its fight against Russia.
