Vucic banned from going to Moscow by EU, Serbian president's plane makes

The plane of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić was forced to make an emergency landing in Baku, Azerbaijan, while en route to Moscow where he was expected to participate in the Victory Day parade on May 9.

According to international reports, the sudden travel ban came as a result of the ban on entry into the airspace of several countries as well as due to unidentified security threats, including risks from air defense systems along the route.

Earlier, Latvia and Lithuania had explicitly banned Vučić from flying in their airspace, while the European Union had warned that his participation in the celebrations in Moscow could negatively affect Serbia's EU membership talks.

In a similar move, Poland and Lithuania had also blocked Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's flight to Moscow, while Estonia had imposed a general ban on flights to Russia for the commemorative event.

These coordinated actions by the Baltic states and Poland, known for their support for Ukraine, are being seen as an attempt to disrupt celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. At the same time, Ukrainian forces are intensifying attacks on Moscow in an attempt to disrupt the arrival of foreign leaders at the ceremony.
