Trilateral meeting in Washington/ Hezbollah accepts ceasefire, but with

Hezbollah in Lebanon has accepted a ceasefire, but on the condition that the agreement is respected by all parties, including Israel.

The deputy head of the movement's Political Council, Mahmoud Komati, said the group agrees to a halt to fighting, but will not accept a situation where one side implements the agreement and the other does not, as has happened before.

Meanwhile, the United States has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to begin direct negotiations, following a meeting held in Washington. The talks are expected to take place at a date and place to be determined by both sides.

The situation on the ground remains tense.

Fighting resumed on March 1, when Hezbollah resumed attacks on Israel. In turn, the Israeli military has intensified strikes on the group's targets in Lebanon and launched a ground operation in the south of the country.

Despite signals of a ceasefire, it remains unclear whether the agreement will hold and whether the parties will manage to reduce tensions in the coming days.
