Scandal in Thailand, 35-year-old woman lured Buddhist monks, had sex with them

Wilawan Emsawat, who was known by the nickname Sika Golf, is accused of having inappropriate relationships with 13 monks and also faces charges of money laundering and receiving stolen goods.

Local reports say the 35-year-old managed to extort more than 10 million euros from Buddhist monks by using videos and photos of their sexual encounters as leverage. Police seized five of the 35-year-old's mobile phones, on which they found the videos and photos in question. In the frames, they saw some of the monks dressed in their traditional orange robes. The investigation resulted in the expulsion of nine of the 13 monks from the monastic order and the number of people involved is expected to rise.

The investigation was prompted by the disappearance of the abbot of Bangkok's Wat Tri Thotsathep Worawihan temple last June.

As it later turned out, the reason for his departure was his love affair with the 35-year-old woman, who claimed to be pregnant and demanded 206,000 euros from him. When he refused to pay, the 35-year-old woman revealed their affair to his co-religionists, resulting in the abbot's departure from Thailand.

Another monk admitted that Wilawan had gifted him a car during their relationship, adding that he was devastated when he discovered she was having an affair with another monk. When he questioned her about it, she allegedly began blackmailing him for money.

According to data from Wilawan's bank accounts, transactions worth over 10 million euros have taken place in the last three years, with authorities suspecting that a significant portion of this money comes from the temple's coffers, with the 35-year-old also suspected of spending large sums on illegal online gambling sites.
