Heavy snowfall in Switzerland, level 4 alert declared in Ticino

Meteorological authorities in Switzerland have warned of heavy snowfall over the weekend, declaring a risk level of 4 out of 5 in the canton of Ticino, where the thickness of new snow is expected to reach up to 90 centimeters.

According to MeteoSwiss, several other cantons will also face difficult weather conditions, with a risk level of 3 out of 5, including Schwyz, Lucerne, Graubünden, Valais and Bern.

Meteorologists warn that up to 80 centimeters of new snow could fall in some areas by Sunday noon.

Authorities have called for caution, as the weight of the snow can cause branches to break and trees to fall, creating obstacles on the road and a danger to citizens.
