Iran's parliament votes to close Strait of Hormuz, experts warn of 'economic shock'

The Iranian parliament has decided that the Strait of Hormuz should be “closed,” according to Iran’s Press TV. According to the Iranian television, Major General Kowsari, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security Committee, stated that the “final decision” lies with the Supreme National Security Council.
The Strait of Hormuz lies between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and is the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean, making it a critically important maritime corridor.
Elsewhere in the region, both the UKMTO (United Kingdom Merchant Marine Operations) and the JMIC information center of the US-led multinational maritime force are warning of a "high" threat level in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as the Israel-Iran conflict continues after the US strikes overnight.
Experts have warned that the economic shock caused by the closure of the strait could be worse than that caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
