Sweden to ban phones in schools starting in 2026

The Swedish government has decided to ban the use of smartphones in primary and secondary schools in 2026, Anadolu reports.

Swedish Education Minister Simona Mohamsson told Swedish state radio SR that they have decided to ban the use of smartphones in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools across the country starting in 2026.

Mohamsson said the decision will take effect in 2026 and the ban will apply even during breaks.

Noting that the government has allocated a budget of $10 million to implement the proposal, Mohamsson said: "Students should learn to enjoy spending time with their friends or playing football during breaks, instead of wasting time on TikTok."
