Albania towards an agreement for foreign workers with India as well

Albania and India are preparing to formalize an agreement for the regular migration of Indian workers to the Albanian labor market, in a development that is expected to impact both the employment and tourism sectors.
The statement was made by the Indian Ambassador to Albania, Ravindra Prasad Jaiswal, during a visit to Pogradec, where he stressed that talks with the Albanian Government are at an advanced stage and aim to create a regular framework for the movement of labor.
According to him, India is considered an important source of skilled workers, while Albanian businesses are increasingly seeing them as potential for various economic sectors. Currently, around 1,200 work visas have been granted to Indian citizens in Albania, a figure that is expected to increase.
The ambassador emphasized that a partnership agreement is being discussed that will guarantee "organized and controlled" migration, aiming to avoid problems and increase transparency in the labor market.
Another pillar of cooperation remains tourism. Since the lifting of visas in 2020, the flow of Indian tourists to Albania has increased significantly.
According to data cited by the ambassador, around 30-35 thousand Indian tourists visited Albania last year.
In the first four months of 2025, the flow has almost doubled compared to the same period of the previous year.
This trend is seen as a new market with great potential for the Albanian tourism industry.
Investment and cultural cooperation
In the economic field, the ambassador announced that 18 Indian companies are registered in Albania, mainly in the mining sector, although their activity is not yet fully consolidated.
In parallel, the expansion of cultural cooperation between the two countries is also being discussed. In the framework of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, various activities are planned, including a photo exhibition for Mother Teresa, official visits by representatives of the Indian government, the arrival of a cultural troupe in Albania, as well as artistic activities in cities such as Pogradec.
The Ambassador underlined that Albania-India relations are still in a development phase, but with a clear growth trend in both tourism and employment and investment. According to him, the coming years are expected to bring a more visible presence of India in the Albanian economy.
