"I will bomb Moscow"/ Trump threatened Putin, secret conversation revealed

Spectacular revelation in the US: American television station CNN released an audio recording in which Donald Trump tells how he had threatened Russian dictator Vladimir Putin that he would bomb Moscow.

Trump is said to have said this during a meeting with donors in the 2024 election campaign.

In the recording, Trump says: “I told Putin, ‘If you invade Ukraine, I will bomb Moscow to the ground. I’m telling you, I have no other choice.’”

Trump continues: “And then [Putin] said something like, ‘I don’t trust you.’ But he trusted me 10 percent.”

Trump also said he had warned Chinese President Xi Jinping in similar terms about an invasion of Taiwan. He threatened to bomb Beijing if it did. “He thought I was crazy,” Trump said of Xi, adding: “But we never had a problem.”

“He asked, ‘Beijing?’ I said, ‘I have no choice. I have to bomb you,’” Trump said of the conversation with Xi.

He emphasized that it is enough for threats to be only 5 or 10 percent credible to prevent wars.

The recordings were made in 2024, when Donald Trump, then a former president and Republican presidential nominee, was on the campaign trail. They appear to refer to conversations Trump had as president during his first term (2017-2021) with other state leaders.

Trump often repeats that Putin would not have invaded Ukraine if he were president, and blames his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the war.

Trump's efforts to broker a ceasefire or peace between aggressor Russia and Ukraine have so far failed. He also refuses to tighten sanctions on Russia or apply other pressure.

Trump has recently expressed increasing frustration with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin is feeding the United States “a bunch of lies,” the US president said. “I’m not happy with Putin,” he said during a cabinet meeting. “I’m very unhappy with him.”
