Barcelona tired of visitors/ Tourist tax increase is expected

Barcelona plans to increase the tourist tax for cruise and ferry passengers staying in the city for less than 12 hours, Mayor Jaume Collboni said in an interview with El Pais newspaper.

" We will propose a significant tax increase for cruise ship passengers ," Collboni said.

This measure is added to a series of measures he has announced to reduce the impact of mass tourism.

The decision comes just weeks after protesters in Barcelona sprayed water on foreign visitors during a demonstration, chanting: " Tourists, go back where you came from ."

Barcelona wants fewer tourists who pay more.
