Gun attack on mayor in Turkey, shot by masked man, one injured

Fethiye Mayor Alim Karaca was injured in a gun attack in the Akarca neighborhood of Mugla. Karaca, who was attacked by a masked man, was reportedly wounded in the leg.

Following the report, multiple police and medical teams were dispatched to the area. Karaca, who was injured in the leg, was taken to a private hospital in the district by ambulance.

Fethiye District Governor Fatih Akkaya visited the hospital to inquire about Karaca's condition and expressed his best wishes to Karaca and his family.

Expressing his sadness and anger over the incident, Akkaya said: "Our mayor's health is excellent. There is nothing to worry about. Our doctors are experts in their field and he will recover after the intervention."

"Our responsibility is to ensure that the perpetrator is caught as soon as possible. We will take all necessary measures to prevent such things from happening again in our district."

Alim Karaca was born on July 9, 1973, in Fethiye, Mugla. He began his political life at a young age, being actively involved in the Youth Branch of the Republican People's Party during his high school years. After his education in Istanbul, Karaca returned to Mugla and held important positions in local government.

Karaca, who served as Mayor of Kumluova between 2009 and 2014, played an active role in local government activities in the region. In addition to his political activities, Karaca is also involved in agriculture and is known to have been engaged in manufacturing activities in the region for many years.

Alim Karaca, who was closely involved in sports during his student years, played as a licensed volleyball player for Enka Sports Club during his time in Istanbul. Married with two children, Karaca was elected Mayor of Fethiye on behalf of the CHP in the Local Elections of 31 March 2019.
